I’m one of ten and we are a large tightly knitted family.
Growing up, my parents placed a lot of emphasis on church, education, cohesiveness,
respect, honesty, forgiveness, perseverance and communication. Today, these
values influence my day-to-day activities especially as I make an extra effort
to communicate with the fiancée or my son. In addition, no matter how bad the
day is, I try to remain positive and keep pushing until the end of the day;
then, I move onto the next day with the same mentality. In day-today activities,
I used values such as honesty, respect, forgiveness; also, values learned while
at church (God 1st & equality).
Furthermore, daily activities constantly change but I hold
on to respect, honesty and perseverance. African Americans are typically
communal in nature, therefore, I value the input groups and my close family and
friends when completing assignments.
Finally, in reflecting on my cultural heritage, ethnic influences,
religion, and values I’ve realized how much the aforementioned values instilled
me have affected work habits and overall success.
