Select one occupation that is especially meaningful to you or something you do routinely. Discuss this occupation and how it varies based on changes in the temporal context.
·      For example, how has eating dinner varied for you based on your age/developmental level, stage of life, or disability status?

Chinese Proverb: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”

I truly believe life is about serving others and the quote above is one that has always resonated with me. So many people have invested love and care into my life; consequently, I feel obligated to help care for others. Even if I don’t personally know the individual(s), I still have some level of care and respect; we’re all human. There are a lot of occupations but taking care of others is one that’s meaningful to me. Growing up, I was one out of ten and I received a lot of love and care. As the eighth born, I was only responsible for my younger sister and brother. I would wipe faces, change diapers, and others similar to those performed by my older siblings. As I aged, I received a lot of care from others in the community and they would later become part of my extended family.

Currently, I take care of my son and my fiancĂ©e and it brings me a sense of fulfillment. I truly love taking care of them and being the individual solely responsible for them. Compared to childhood, I have a lot more responsibilities and I express that I care in deeper or different ways. I often apply things experienced from my past and implement in other situations. In addition, the joy of taking care of others shaped my future career/occupation, and I’m currently enrolled at Winston Salem State University as an occupational therapist student.
